Founded in 1855 and being the oldest and largest movement for youth in the world, the YMCA World Alliance initiated the World Challenge as an annual day for YMCAs around the world to celebrate their impact in their local communities. It takes place on June 6th –on the YMCA birthday for already the third year.
The World Challenge 2015 was about “kicking goals for youth empowerment”. Right before the event UNESCO officially announced that the YMCA World Challenge 2015 worldwide football global event is an officially sanctioned event under their patronage.
The event addresses 5 key messaging points:
1. To raise awareness of the YMCA
2. To invite people to join us
3. To speak of the movement mission
4. To celebrate the movement birthday
5. To break records
YMCA Armenia Coordination and Development Group formed during the Youth Forum on May 1-3rd in Vanadzor YMCA Aramyan campsite firmly insisted we should join the third YMCA World Challenge as well inspired by our successful participation in the event during the previous 2 years. Our young leaders kicked goals in the joint attempt of breaking a Guinness record. We would like to thank Yerevan “Junior Sport” sports school for their great support and for hosting our event.
On the same day almost all of our Armenian local YMCAs held flash mobs in their local communities dancing in the YMCA song. Yerevan YMCA volunteers and Syrian Armenian YMCA Youth Initiative group leaders and Sunday program participants ran the flash mob together in the Northern Avenue in Yerevan with a special permission from Yerevan Municipality.
